About the hiatus...

So, just got back from Germany concert tour yesterday, and wasn't able to blog while I was there. Before I went there were a few gigs that I didn't mention as well, but luckily for you I promise not to blog on absolutely everything...

So, in a nutshell, sorry for the delay and expect a few new posts, but I promise not to bore you with every detail of every moment of every concert.

  1. Hey Dan, hadn't realised you were heading off to pastures new until Sunday. Trust you all enjoy U2 tonight!

Some songs or bands you might want to check out and that I meant to pass onto you:

    a) Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise is a good starter album, but Seven Swans is more stripped back and more spiritual in content. If you can get "Holy, Holy" on iTunes then it is simply wonderful and comes from a box set of four Christmas albums.

    b) Low - very slow, minimalist and beautiful although they sometimes take a bit of perseverance. "Things We Lost In The Fire" or "Trust" are good places to start. If you fancy checking them out have a search for "That's How You Sing Amazing Grace" from "Trust".

    c) At the moment I am loving a band called This Will Destroy You. Check out a song called "Quiet" - great post rock.

    d) An album I have simply failed to tire of this year is "Oh! Mighty Engine" by Neil Halstead. I love his former bands and this is a breezy stripped back acoustic guitar album that is just great.

    e) In terms of stuff that's outside the Christian circuit, but v.interesting lyrically and musically then you might want to investigate Duke Special. "No Cover Up" on Joolz Holland on You Tube will give you a flavour. The "Duke" once played my drum kit at a Powerpoint event ina previous guise...

    f) Pedro The Lion is the moniker of struggling David Bazan who started playing the Christian scene and seems to have abandoned it. As a starter I don't think you can go wrong with a song called "the Secret of The Easy Yolk".

    g) One of my favourite albums is "Flesh and Spirits" by Gena Rowlands Band. It is hugely creative and again Bob Massey is a Christian - albeit one who uses language that I may not in terms of how I articulate myself. Maybe not one for the easily offended, but a wonderful album none the less. You can get a flavour on myspace.

    h) I always feel the need for Sonic Youth. "Unwind" is a wonderful musical arrangement. For a feel fore them live check out "Incinerate" or 2Teen Age Riot" on You Tube.

    Peace.

    B.
